{"id":169,"date":"2012-12-17T13:04:08","date_gmt":"2012-12-17T18:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pastorsblog.lakeviewhamilton.com\/?p=169"},"modified":"2012-12-17T13:04:08","modified_gmt":"2012-12-17T18:04:08","slug":"something-angels-were-excited-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorsblog.lakeviewhamilton.com\/?p=169","title":{"rendered":"Something Angels were excited about!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My favorite Christmas hymn is \u201cHark the Herald Angels Sing\u201d.\u00a0 Written by Charles Wesley, and in spite of the fact that nowhere does it say the angels sang, it is chocked full of Biblical language and Christian theology.<\/p>\n<p>Wesley\u2019s second verse tells us about the coming of the Redeemer.\u00a0 Paul in Philippians tells us He was equal with Father in heaven, and in Galatians relates that he came at the perfect time to do His saving work.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Christ, by highest heaven adored;<br \/>\nChrist, the everlasting Lord;<br \/>\nLate in time behold him come,<br \/>\nOffspring of the Virgin&#8217;s womb.<br \/>\nVeiled in flesh the Godhead see;<br \/>\nHail the incarnate Deity,<br \/>\nPleased as man with man to dwell;<br \/>\nJesus, our Emmanuel.<\/p>\n<p>He is very God and very man, born of a virgin, a supernatural conception to become \u201cGod with us\u201d. (Believe it or not, I found one source that changed virgin\u2019s womb to favored one.)<\/p>\n<p>Verse Three:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Hail the heav&#8217;n-born Prince of Peace!<br \/>\nHail the Son of Righteousness!<br \/>\nLight and life to all He brings<br \/>\nRis&#8217;n with healing in His wings<br \/>\nMild He lays His glory by<br \/>\nBorn that man no more may die<br \/>\nBorn to raise the sons of earth<br \/>\nBorn to give them second birth<\/p>\n<p>Charles finishes with one of the most succinct representations of the gospel ever penned by man.\u00a0 The power of the truth of man\u2019s depravity and weakness before death, the healing and life-giving power of the Savior, and the means of man\u2019s redemption, a new birth, is multiplied by the simple and short words of Wesley, till they hammer within us and explode with grateful rejoicing.<\/p>\n<p>Of all times of the year, Christmas ought to be the time we are most sensitive to the Gospel.\u00a0 Jesus did not come to this earth to give us health, happiness, a fatter wallet, or a better marriage.\u00a0 He came to give us life, to take away our sin; and He did so by dying on our behalf.\u00a0 We come to Him, not to claim our life, but in repudiation of it so that we might have His.<\/p>\n<p>The woes of this broken world will never know respite but by the change in the hearts of men as they come to Him.\u00a0 Seeing this simple lowly birth as the key to all the problems and hurts of man, the angels shouted, \u201cGlory to God in the highest\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My favorite Christmas hymn is \u201cHark the Herald Angels Sing\u201d.\u00a0 Written by Charles Wesley, and in spite of the fact that nowhere does it say the angels sang, it is chocked full of Biblical language and Christian theology.
