I believe the things I\u2019m going to tell you are errors.\u00a0 They are either passed on in ignorance or deliberately used to manipulate people. Let\u2019s look at a few of these myths.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus was a wimp.\u00a0 He was not!\u00a0 Most of the pictures show Jesus with deer eyes and soft hands.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think so.\u00a0 In His livelihood He was a builder, probably a stone cutter or mason, not a carpenter.\u00a0 His hands were calloused.\u00a0 He was physical enough to chase the crooks from the temple with a whip made of cords.\u00a0 He used violence when He did that and turned over their tables.\u00a0 He was a man\u2019s man.\u00a0 He had enough courage to look a man in the eyes and ask him to give up his most important possessions.\u00a0 He was humble but he was no sissy.\u00a0 Real men like fishermen could relate to Him.\u00a0 Real men still can!<\/p>\n<p>Self-defense is prohibited in the New Testament.\u00a0 Sorry, but it is not.\u00a0 Loving your neighbor does not mean you have to let him take your life, life that God alone can give.\u00a0 Revenge is forbidden; so is striking out to protect your pride.\u00a0 That\u2019s what \u201cturning the other cheek\u201d is about.\u00a0 You can choose not to defend yourself, which will be between you and Him alone, His will for you, not necessarily for me or anyone else.\u00a0 If you are just cowardly and want to believe nothing can happen if you don\u2019t think it, be that on your own head.\u00a0 But don\u2019t call someone else to do what you lack the physical and moral will to do yourself.\u00a0 Want to read more?\u00a0 Check this out:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/davekopel.org\/Religion.htm\">http:\/\/davekopel.org\/Religion.htm<\/a> or contact me for a list of resources.<\/p>\n<p>Churches should listen to the un-churched.\u00a0 Myth!\u00a0 We have had too many polls where people who don\u2019t know Jesus from Derek Jeter are telling us what they don\u2019t like about the church.\u00a0 C\u2019mon, let\u2019s think for just a minute.\u00a0 Believers are supposed to have a relationship with God, and the Holy Spirit is supposed to live within them and guide them.\u00a0 I believe this is true in spite of the problems the church has.\u00a0 So, why not ask Him what His church is supposed to be like.\u00a0 Pastors, really all believers, are supposed to read the Bible, God\u2019s Word, and get direction there.\u00a0 Maybe the reason the church has some of the troubles I mentioned above is because we have made it a haven for folks with no relationship with God and who give no priority to His Word.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks, I feel better!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Myths and Manipulations Every once in a while my head gets clogged up with things and I have to clear them out so I can move on.
